World KnowledgeWorld Knowledge
Co-sculpted with Mary Weisert

Earliest Settlers: Sturgeon

Earliest Settlers
Material:     Bronze
Size:          10" high, 24" long

Many of the current inhabitants of Midwest rivers were here before any humans.  All of these earliest settlers (the sturgeon, paddlefish, buffalo fish, gar and catfish) have been here for at least 35 million years.

Sturgeon Sturgeon
Material:     Bronze
Size:           12" high, 36" long

This prehistoric creature still survives in our rivers despite the challenges of pollution and rechannelization.  Its scaled body and long flat nose reminds us of the fish that once swam the oceans that covered much of the country.

So'yoko: The EnforcerSo'yoko:  The Enforcer
